One day my son was looking at the flowers the family had bought me for Mother’s Day. He said “mum look at your flowers”. I responded “yes they are dead”. His replied while putting his hands to his head and said “they’re sleeping”. We laughed at how he had a different perspective regarding the flowers outcome.
It made me consider how sometimes we can give up and put an end, a full stop to some aspects of our lives. When actually due to neglect or other circumstances it has just become dormant. It’s just sleeping. We just need to give it some attention and a new lease of life.
Now there are some situations (just like the dead flowers) that have come to an end. That we have to accept and deal with differently. However that is not what I am focusing on here. I am addressing those hopes, those dreams and desires. The ones we have treated like they are dead but deep down within us we know they’re only sleeping. What can you do to revive it? Who can help you to kick start it? What small step can you take today?
During Easter we focus on the death and resurrection of Jesus. However even during this time we sometimes can place more emphasis on his death and fail to appreciate the significance of his resurrection. I truly believe that Jesus never wants the focus to primarily be on his death but on the acknowledgement of the resurrection. The resurrection part of Easter gives the aspect of Jesus being our saviour it’s true meaning.
Jesus said that “the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.“
John 10:10 NKJV
Jesus came to give new life and energy to all of us. Especially those who have become hopeless and despondent. He encouraged and blessed them.
He says “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.“
Matthew 5:3 NKJV
Be assured that Jesus has blessed you with more than you realise. That it supersedes our earthly atmosphere and existence. All we have to do is allow Him to be the resurrector of our desires and dreams. Let Jesus bring them back to life, so that we may fulfil His plans.
”For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.“
Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
