After reading an extract from a Bible reading plan on the ‘You Version Bible’ app. I decided to overcome my anxious and shy nature and take on one of the suggested challenges. The challenge was to basically leave a tract or leaflet for a random stranger in a public place. However, I decided to adjust it and leave an encouraging handwritten note.
As I left the house I was so nervous about what and how I was going to carry out the task. What if I am seen leaving it and then questioned? (Yep I’m an overthinker too) Anyway I had brunch with my husband in a lovely restaurant. Then as we were coming to the end of our meal. I could no longer resist the urge to act. I took out my pen and wrote a note on a napkin. (Why a napkin? I guess in all my courage building, I forgot to take paper.)
It felt so impromptu but inspired. I then left the note on the table as we left. I saw the waitress walk pass us to the table and pick up the note. Did I turn around to look for her reaction? Ah nah! The uncertainty of how she would react, and my anxiety made me hurry my husband to leave.
Did I need to know the outcome? No, not in the slightest. The fact that I felt led and fulfilled the desire to show appreciation, is what matters. Too many times in life we are focusing on the end result before we act. Fearing the unknown. But God reminds us that if he has spoken to us, then we must act. He will never leave us and not provide. Sometimes the outcome is not even about us, but we are one of the small cogs in the wheel.
So, remember Psalm 32:8 ‘I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide with My eye.’ (NIV)
